We are looking for an applications engineer to work closely with our development/engineering team, customers and management team to help us design, test and and manufacture products, such as bionic hands. The role will include supporting our engineering team, building test rigs and running tests, product manufacture and customer support. Customer support may involve visiting customers in the field to make repairs or collect broken products and/or making repairs in the office. The role will include extensive use of 3D printers to prototype and manufacture components. The role will include final assembly and testing of products.
This role is aimed at ambitious and motivated graduate engineers who want to work in a small team with a pioneering start-up company. The successful candidate will be a fast and enthusiastic learner and will be willing to muck in with whatever tasks are required to meet the requirements of the company and its customers.
The first 6-9 months of the role will be spent in the production department, learning how to manufacture Open Bionics' products and receiving training on the use of production equipment, production processes and basic design tools. During this time you'll be encouraged to give critical feedback on the production processes and may be asked to make small design changes and improvements to the production and quality assurance equipment. Following on from this, for the next 9-12 months the focus of the role will gradually transition towards more customer support and design work of bespoke components in the prosthetic products. You'll be taught how to use more complex CAD packages and design techniques and will be asked to contribute to design and validation of new products. Finally, the role will gradually transition to focus more on new product design and you'll be guided towards an engineering specialisation such as electronics, software, embedded software or mechanical engineering design.
Applications close on the 18th of October.
